TOPIC: Urgent prayer request

Urgent prayer request 6 months, 2 weeks ago #1

Pastor Clint Caviness has been my pastor for the last 9 years and has been the pastor of Victory Baptist Church, Roseburg, OR for the last 17 years. He at the time of this post is being admitted to the hospital for major open heart surgery and full artificial valve replacement on Saturday July 30th. He will be in surgery for this extremely complicated proceedure from 7am until 5pm (estimated 8-10 hours if all goes well). Of course, God, if it is in His will and to glorify His name can choose to heal him in an instant and a LOT of prayer has been lifted up for just that, long before he went to the physicians. Words cannot possibly discribe how much we love this incredible man of God. Please join us all in prayer and fasting for our pastor.

I'll be sure to keep him in mind when praying this weekend. I hope that you'll be kind enough to keep me and any others reading this updated on his condition. I'd very much like to know how he's doing whenever you know anything more.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

God is so good! Of course God is good even if I wasn't giving incredible news! My pastor went into surgery at 7:30am this morning and the surgeon found that he could repair his valve instead of replace it! There was absolutely no chance of that according to his cardiologist! No Cumadin and anti-rejection drugs for the rest of his life. The next 48hrs is still very critical to see how his weakened heart responds to getting full force blood flow now after years of pumping only a net 40% of his blood. The hospital was a bit overwhelmed by the fact that 90 people were in the surgery waiting room the entire 7 hour surgery. I am afraid we violated the "quiet" rules when we got the post operative news and that group of fundamental baptists went a little "pentacostal or charasmatic".

Update on my pastors condition and continued need for prayer. He has two complications from the surgery both considered normal complications but still serious that needs to improve soon. One is that one of his lungs is not refilling properly after being on the heart/lung machine. They have a tube to it that is causing him a great deal of discomfort. The second issue is that his heart is still "quivering" literally from the surgery. This is also considered normal and can last anywhere from hours to 2 months after surgery before the heart resumes normal pace. For this reason it is very important for a post operative heart patient to be up and walking as soon as possible as this helps stabilize the heart. They and his family have not been successful in getting him up and walking as needed because of the severe pain from the lung issue.

That doesn't sound good, but hopefully it's just temporary. Whether it's hours or 2 months, we'll stick with you on this. Thank you for the update.

My pastor's heart beat still has not stabablized as of yesterday, but there has been some improvement. They will decide today if they need to give him a pacemaker and if so for how long. They finally were able to remove the tube from his ribcage for the lung issue so his pain is greatly reduced. He is in considerable pain and stubornly refuses to take any pain relievers greater than Tylenol. My pastor is a hard core work-a-holic and 6 days now in the ICU cave has brought him low, so now I ask prayer not only for his physical condition but his emotional and spirits as well. He is NOT one that takes well to having to have people wait on him hand and foot.
